Welcome

Hello there every one, I say welcome to you all.
I am glad that you have found this blog. For those of you that have come from Facebook, or are online friends I thank you for coming. For those of you that are electronic surfers that have just stumbled upon this blog I thank you for coming as well and hope that you get some use from this space. I hope that you all return often.

So to get started let me first explain the name of this blog. The term "The Silent Nation" is a phrase that I coined and came up with quite by accident. I was writing a short article for publication about some of my observations while looking for my own history. I quickly came to realize that those of us that have mixed Indo blood, could be considered a unique and individual nation. My point of view is that we all have a common history, a collective consciousness, similar experiences, custom's and words that are only unique to us. However, we have no voice in our own government, we have no geographic location to call our country. So essentially, we are a nation at large.

This blog is the official blog of the Dutch Indonesian Community on facebook. I was going to use that as the name for this group, however recognizing that there are mixed blood Indos from every nation of the world, "The Silent Nation" just seemed to fit. Also when I started the group on Facebook I had never even considered the possibility that there were even other combinations involved.

There are many reasons why I created this Blog, but the main reasons are to ask the hard questions and to tell the stories. The hard questions need to be asked so that we may better understand the mixed blood Indo experience. A person that doesn't know their own history is truly a lost soul. To tell a story is like opening a window or a door to the past. When the story is over, the door closes, and when the person that carries the story dies, that piece of the puzzle is lost forever. The stories that people tell about their lives are the life's blood of a nations memory, and when those stories are recorded it preserves them for the present and future.

I hope I have given you all some idea of what this blog is for and the ideas behind it. I look forward to writing for you and look forward to your comments and feed back. Again, thank you all for visiting.
